Typhoon Mawar Mutual Aid recovery Fund for the Mariana Islands

On May 24, super Typhoon Mawar (category 5 cyclone) pummeled through the Mariana island, leaving the majority of people without power and water on Guam and Rota. This disaster extensively damaged critical infrastructure, many residential homes and businesses.  It will be a long road to recovery for these frontline pacific island communities. Micronesia Climate Change Alliance is currently fundraising and working with groups in the diaspora for mutual aid to provide resources to those most urgently in need. We are creating as many Relief Kits as possible, with items such as solar charged power banks, first aid kits, solar lanterns and fans, mosquito repellent, hygiene essentials, etc. We are also identifying items specifically for kids. Elders in our communities have also reached out to our leadership, letting us know they were left houseless in the wreckage. We are also providing community members who have lost their homes with direct financial aid.  Other community nonprofits and businesses like Sagan Kuttoran Chamoru, Island Girl Power and Guahan Sustainable culture, are also in need of assistance.

With this level of engagement we developed resources highlighting Climate Justice efforts and the need for energy democracy, housing justice and demilitarization.

Though Typhoon Mawar has devastated Guam and Rota, this Just Recovery effort presents an opportunity to provide mutual aid and immediate relief with efforts led by and for the community.
